Los Angeles Ranks No. 1 in Flossing
Results released in DenTek’s “Look Who’s Flossing” Survey
MARYVILLE, Tenn. (March 6, 2013) – What comes to mind when you think of LA? Bright lights? Hollywood celebrities? Flashy smiles?
Celebrities in Los Angeles aren’t the only ones with great teeth. According to the newly released “Look Who’s Flossing” Survey by DenTek, LA was named the No. 1 city in the nation for flossing. Nearly 45 percent of those surveyed reported flossing at least once a day.
Best Cities for Flossing Worst Cities for Flossing
- 1. Los Angeles 1. Cleveland
- 2. Boston 2. Seattle/Tacoma
- 3. Detroit 3. Dallas/Ft. Worth
- 4. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale 4. San Francisco/San Jose
- 5. Atlanta 5. Chicago
“We commissioned this consumer opinion survey to drill down into flossing habits and behaviors in America’s biggest cities,” said Charlotte Havely, vice president of marketing for DenTek, a national leader in oral care products. “About 35 percent of people we talked to are frequent flossers, which is very encouraging.”
So why not floss? The survey found the biggest reason for not flossing is just not thinking about it (27 percent).
“We understand with today’s busier-than-ever lifestyles that you may forget or run out of time to floss. We’re all guilty of that at times. But if you’ll keep floss picks in your bag, your car, wherever is convenient, you’ll be able to floss on the go for a healthier and brighter smile,” Havely added.
Additional survey findings include:
- 1 in 10 reported never flossing
- Three quarters of flossers reported flossing in their home bathroom, but 11 percent said they will floss anywhere
- Why do people floss?
- 37 percent – for overall health
- 25 percent – recommended by dentist/hygienist
- 19 percent – to protect dental investments
“Health benefits usually come to mind when it comes to flossing, but more and more people are starting to understand the money savings aspect, too. If you take care of your teeth, by brushing and flossing regularly, you can alleviate pain down the road – in your mouth and your wallet,” said Havely.
