Natural Floss Pick FAQ

Q: Why did DenTek create the Natural Floss Picks?
A: DenTek is making an effort to decrease our environmental footprint while still making high quality oral care products. It is a working process and every little bit helps. For more information, please read more here, Cereplast to Supply Bio-Based Plastic for DenTek Natural Floss Picks

Q: What is the advantage of Natural Floss Picks over other Floss Picks?
A: The renewable plastic used in DenTek Natural Floss Picks is an economically and ecologically sound substitute for petroleum-based products. These resins replace a significant percentage of petroleum-based additives with starches made out of corn, wheat, tapioca, and potatoes thus creating a highly sustainable product.

Q: How do I dispose of my Natural Floss Picks?
A: DenTek Natural Floss Picks biodegrade safely and easily in a professionally managed compost facility. There are many local industrial compost facilities in states throughout the country. To find one near you, please visit www.FindAComposter.com.

Q: What if there isn't an industrial facility in my area?
A: If there is not a facility in your area, we encourage you to build your own at home compost bin. Natural Floss Picks will biodegrade on their own in an at home compost bin, but they might take a little longer than if they were composted in an industrial facility. For more information on how to build a compost bin and what else you can compost besides your Natural Floss Picks, please visit http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/conserve/rrr/composting/by_compost.htm

Q: Are the Natural Floss Picks recyclable?
A: No, please do not throw your used Natural Floss Picks in with your other recyclables.

Q: Is the floss biodegradable?
A: No, the floss is made of polyester and is not biodegradable. Please remove the floss from the floss pick before disposing of the plastic.

Q: What can I do with the plastic floss pick bag?
A: The Natural Floss Pick bag is 100% recyclable.

"I loved the floss picks anyway, and now I am really pleased that there is a biodegrable product available. Way to go, Dentek!"

"These pics are so great my son in Australia asked me to order them and then ship them to him. He can't get them in Melbourne."

"These are great pics and the best part is that they are environmentally friendly. It just makes me sick to see the regular plastic picks on the ground...yes people believe it or not people do use these and then throw them on the ground. At least now I have something that works great and I feel great about promoting to anyone."

"These are the worst pics I have ever used. The pic bends over very easily making that part of the flossing routine very tough. Also, The floss breaks out of the pic with the slightest pressure of the back and forth motion of flossing. I have to use about 5 or 6 pics just to do one session of cleaning. Very poor quality!"

"I like the idea of a natural floss pick that is biodegradable and they work very well. I have to tell you that I also like the sample product floss picks with the silk. So much gentler on the gums and they don't shred. I'm so glad I found this company!"

"Very disappointed. I bought these picks because I was very excited that they were "green" and had a fluoride coating. I had just read an article about how wasteful flossing can be and so was determined to find a better alternative to my normal floss picks and these seemed to fit the bill.
My first disappointment was the impracticability of the shape. My other pick was shaped so that the floss was perpendicular to the pick, whereas this is (relatively) parallel to the floss. This design forced me to hold the pick outside of my mouth, quite uncomfortable, especially for back molars. But! But! That was before I even attempted to fit the floss between my teeth. I barely got it in my looser gaps, and it was impossible to get in my tighter ones. I had to finish flossing with my original picks! The round floss is just too thick and not waxy enough. So then I tried the end pick. It's just too sharp. They poked through the bag, even.
Now, I did have braces, so my teeth are pretty tight together. But, anymore, most people have had braces so they ought to design for that. I would not purchase these, unless your teeth are quite far from each other. While these were much cheaper than the floss picks I used before, and had to go back to, both for their cost and impact on the earth, they were just plain unusable. "

"Love these pics as they slide very easily between my tight teeth and being a 'green freak', I like to see a Natural Product!"
