Splint… Jaw pain… Custom nightguard…

Chances are you’re really familiar with those words if you suffer from bruxism, that anxiety-induced nighttime clenching and grinding of the teeth. Even though they’re made of the hardest material the body can produce, your teeth need to be protected from each other to prevent cracking, wearing, and breaking while you bite and clench. DenTek’s nightguards give you the quality, custom-fit protection you need.

STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE

Proper care of your Dentek Nightguard will extend its life.
  • After each use, rinse the denal protector in cool water or mouthwash. Never use hot water on your dental protector as it might lose its shape.
  • Store in the hygienic storage container when not in use.

"I had bad mouth pain and chipping of my enamel at the gum line due to my grinding. With no insurance I couldn't afford a custom guard so I picked one of these up at the store. After a few nights my teeth pain was gone! The downside is that it only lasted 2 months before all the molding stuff fell apart, but that may have been due to not having it aligned perfectly. This new feels much better in than my first and I'm hoping it will last longer."

"My $600 custom made night guard just broke. I purchased this product on 8/7/09 and so far I like it very much. It was easy to fit. It is a little thicker than the custom made guard but I did not have any trouble adjusting to it. "

"I had difficulty in getting a good secure fit. I couldn't get it to fit after the two tries. I called your customer service department and Trisha was a big help. She credited my account, just as you advertised. No questions, no hassles. I believe your company is a solid one, but this one product just wasn't for me. I love the floss picks though!!!"

"I've used similar products from other companies, but needed a new bite guard after getting sealants. Unfortunately, this was the only brand available at the store I went to, and I did like the idea of "less bulk", as my old bite guard was pretty bulky.

However, I'll take bulk any day if it's the only way to get a decent fit -- this thing doesn't have enough moldable material to cover my teeth. Not only that, but I was able to put my old bite guard in the boiling water more than twice (and needed to) while fitting it to get it to fit securely. Even if I could put this one back in the boiling water, though, I doubt I would ever get a snug fit, as it is all pretty stretched thin, and doesn't go completely to the edge of all my teeth, much less up and around the sides. And my mouth/teeth are by no means large -- if anything, they're quite small (in part due to lifelong bruxism)."

"I bought this product with high hopes! But, was disappointed.

It felt much like a sports mouth guard that I had worn in high school; I woke during the night because of my mouth being sore, and it was hard to keep my lips closed. It DID stop the grinding, so I may have dealt with this pain.. but the last straw was waking up the next morning and feeling my front teeth were not aligned the same! I couldn't eat breakfast because each time I chewed, my front teeth now touched my bottom front teeth!

I then read that if not fitted properly, these can re-align your teeth. So keep this in mind when purchasing.

I returned the product to my local store and instead purchased the lower-teeth NO BOIL self adjust product. It adds some pressure to your inner cheeks, but prevents grinding, I can keep my mouth shut, and the rubber front piece is flexible - rather than pushing teeth together - so alignment is less affected. It's a little more expensive, but worth it."

"Works well to prevent grinding my teeth while sleeping. Have had no problem keeping it in place."

"has anyone ever tried fitting it on the bottom teeth instead of the top?"

"I too have this product. It's been less than a month and it's completely falling apart in the front. The blue "custom" fit. I guess it's only custom for so long. Kinda dangerous to wake up in the middle of the night with plastic pieces floatin in your mouth."

"i have had this less than 10 days and it is already falling apart. the bite strip part seems ok, but i think the molded part that is supposed to hold it in place is designed poorly, and will never last long. does anybody from the company read these things--how about some consideration??"

What You Need To Begin
  • A pot of water
  • A metal spoon or fork
  • A mirror
  • A clock with a second hand

Fitting Instructions

  1. Conduct a "test fitting" by placing the nightguard on your upper teeth and bite down. Make sure it is centered in the middle of your front two teeth.
  2. Using either a stove or microwave, bring a pot of water to a rolling boil.
  3. Remove pot with boiling water and let it rest for 30 seconds.
  4. Place the nightguard with the top layer facing down into the hot water for 45 seconds. DO NOT allow the nightguard to touch the bottom or side of the metal pot at any time.
  5. Remove it with a metal spoon or fork and let air dry for 10 seconds to reduce the heat before fitting.
  6. While looking in a mirror, place in your mouth but do not bite down yet. Align the center of the nightguard below your front two teeth. You may need to squeeze or stretch the back to align with the arch of your mouth.
  7. Using your thumbs, press up on the back of the nightguard onto your back molars and then firmly bite all the way down.
  8. Starting in the back, use your fingers to press the material up and around your teeth and gum line. Use your tongue and thumbs to mold the material against the roof of your mouth.
  9. Suck in to remove excess moisture and create a vacuum that lets the nightguard stay in place comfortably.
  10. Leave the nightguard in your mouth for two minutes to allow the material to firmly set up for a secure fit.
  11. If you achieved a comfortable fit, congratulations, you have finished the fitting process and are now ready to wear your DenTek® Custom Comfort Nightguard!

If you did not get a good fit the first time, repeat the boiling process one more time beginning with Step 1. However, after two attempts, the material loses retention and you will need to contact us to request a replacement DenTek® Custom Comfort Nightguard.
