Splint… Jaw pain… Custom dental guard…

Chances are you’re really familiar with those words if you suffer from bruxism, that anxiety-induced nighttime clenching and grinding of the teeth. Even though they’re made of the hardest material the body can produce, your teeth need to be protected from each other to prevent cracking, wearing, and breaking while you bite and clench. DenTek’s dental guard gives you the quality, custom-fit protection you need.

STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE

Proper care of your Dentek Dental Guard will extend its life.
  • After each use, rinse the dental protector in cool water or mouthwash. Never use hot water on your dental protector as it might lose its shape.
  • Store in the hygienic storage container when not in use.

"My $600 custom made night guard just broke. I purchased this product on 8/7/09 and so far I like it very much. It was easy to fit. It is a little thicker than the custom made guard but I did not have any trouble adjusting to it. "

"I had difficulty in getting a good secure fit. I couldn't get it to fit after the two tries. I called your customer service department and Trisha was a big help. She credited my account, just as you advertised. No questions, no hassles. I believe your company is a solid one, but this one product just wasn't for me. I love the floss picks though!!!"

"I've used similar products from other companies, but needed a new bite guard after getting sealants. Unfortunately, this was the only brand available at the store I went to, and I did like the idea of "less bulk", as my old bite guard was pretty bulky.

However, I'll take bulk any day if it's the only way to get a decent fit -- this thing doesn't have enough moldable material to cover my teeth. Not only that, but I was able to put my old bite guard in the boiling water more than twice (and needed to) while fitting it to get it to fit securely. Even if I could put this one back in the boiling water, though, I doubt I would ever get a snug fit, as it is all pretty stretched thin, and doesn't go completely to the edge of all my teeth, much less up and around the sides. And my mouth/teeth are by no means large -- if anything, they're quite small (in part due to lifelong bruxism)."

"I bought this product with high hopes! But, was disappointed.

It felt much like a sports mouth guard that I had worn in high school; I woke during the night because of my mouth being sore, and it was hard to keep my lips closed. It DID stop the grinding, so I may have dealt with this pain.. but the last straw was waking up the next morning and feeling my front teeth were not aligned the same! I couldn't eat breakfast because each time I chewed, my front teeth now touched my bottom front teeth!

I then read that if not fitted properly, these can re-align your teeth. So keep this in mind when purchasing.

I returned the product to my local store and instead purchased the lower-teeth NO BOIL self adjust product. It adds some pressure to your inner cheeks, but prevents grinding, I can keep my mouth shut, and the rubber front piece is flexible - rather than pushing teeth together - so alignment is less affected. It's a little more expensive, but worth it."

"Works well to prevent grinding my teeth while sleeping. Have had no problem keeping it in place."

"has anyone ever tried fitting it on the bottom teeth instead of the top?"

"I too have this product. It's been less than a month and it's completely falling apart in the front. The blue "custom" fit. I guess it's only custom for so long. Kinda dangerous to wake up in the middle of the night with plastic pieces floatin in your mouth."

"i have had this less than 10 days and it is already falling apart. the bite strip part seems ok, but i think the molded part that is supposed to hold it in place is designed poorly, and will never last long. does anybody from the company read these things--how about some consideration??"

"I found easy to heat up to fit to my bite and once done is comfotable and stays on my top teeth pretty well. Over all Very good rating.

What You Need To Begin
  • A microwave
  • A ceramic cup
  • A metal fork
  • A dental guard
  • A clock with a second hand
  • A ceramic plate
  • A mirror

Fitting Instructions

  1. Using a microwave, bring a coffe cup of water to a rolling boil.
  2. Remove cup of boiling water and let it rest for 15 seconds.
  3. Place the dental guard with the soft, formable material facing DOWN into the hot water for 50 seconds.
  4. Remove it with a metal fork and place on a plate (with the soft, formable material facing UP) for 10 seconds to cool off.
  5. Immediately pick up the dental guard by the base and carefully place in your mouth but do not bite down yet.
  6. While looking in a mirror, align the center below your front two teeth and the sides below your molars.
  7. Firmly bite down and strongly suck in to remove excess moisture. With teeth clenched, use your fingers to mold the soft, formable material up and around the outside of your teeth and gums. Use your tongue to mold the material against the roof of your mouth.
  8. Open your mouth and use your thumbs to mold the soft, formable material against the roof of your mouth and up and around the inside of your teeth and gums.
  9. Firmly bite down again and leave the dental guard in your mouth until it cools to body temperature - about 3 to 4 minutes.

You are now finished with the fitting process and your dental guard should fit comfortably. However, If you did not get a good fit the first time, repeat the boiling process one more time beginning with Step 3. After two attempts, however, the material loses retention and you will need to fit the bonus dental guard.

Cleaning and Care

After each use, brush your dental guard with toothpaste and/or mouthwash. Never rinse in hot water as it could alter the shape of your dental guard.

Replacing Your Dental Guard

All dental guards should be replaced over time. Please check your dental guard monthly for wear. If one wears out, please use the bonus dental guard included. The life of your DenTek Custom Comfort Dental Guard depends on how often you grind and the force of your teeth grinding. On average, each dental guard should last approximately six months or longer.
